Come and experience an Australian summer Christmas in beautiful Woonona, on the NSW South Coast. Stay in a relaxed Australian beach town, but have the mountains, rainforest, wildlife, adventure and Sydney all within easy reach.

We have a comfortable 3-bedroom family home in Woonona, a relaxed coastal suburb just north of Wollongong. We`re surrounded by beautiful beaches, the dramatic Illawarra Escarpment and lovely seaside villages, while Sydney is easily accessible for day trips.

Our home is ideal for a family looking for a relaxed Australian beach holiday, with plenty to explore nearby.

About the location

Woonona is a wonderful base for discovering the Illawarra coastline.

Woonona Beach is close by (walkable), with a beautiful ocean pool, sandy beach, children`s playground and surfing. Bulli Beach and Sandon Point are also nearby, while the coastal villages of Thirroul and Austinmer are a short drive away.

The Illawarra Escarpment provides a spectacular backdrop, with lookouts offering sweeping views over the coastline and Pacific Ocean.

There are lots of lovely local cafes, restaurants and shops nearby, and Wollongong is only around 10–15 minutes away.

Sydney is also within easy reach for a day trip.

Beaches & ocean pools
Woonona Beach is right on your doorstep, with a beautiful ocean pool, playground, surf and plenty of space for swimming and relaxing. Thirroul, Bulli, Austinmer and Stanwell Park are all nearby, with lots of beaches and rock pools to explore.

Bush walks & rainforest
The Illawarra Escarpment is perfect for bushwalking, with everything from shorter family walks to more challenging hikes. Popular options include the Wodi Wodi Track, Mount Kembla Ring Track, Mount Keira Ring Track and the spectacular walk to Sublime Point.

Mountain biking
There are some fantastic mountain-bike opportunities nearby, including Cringila Hills Mountain Bike Park, which has around 12 km of trails plus a skills/jump park and pump track. There`s also the newer Illawarra Escarpment Kembla Network and GreenValleys Mountain Bike Park for more serious riders.

Australian wildlife
Symbio Wildlife Park near Helensburgh is fantastic for families, with Australian animals including koalas and kangaroos as well as exotic animals. It`s also home to a splash park.

Treetop adventures
Illawarra Fly Treetop Adventures is a great day out, with elevated rainforest walks and ziplining high above the forest.

Sea Cliff Bridge & Grand Pacific Drive
Take the spectacular coastal drive north through Stanwell Park and across the 665-metre Sea Cliff Bridge, with incredible ocean and escarpment scenery.

Surfing & cycling
The coastline is fantastic for surfing, swimming and cycling. There are more than 40 km of shared cycling paths around Wollongong, and the coastal route towards Thirroul is particularly popular. There are also bush tracks for mountain biking right on the front door step.

Water parks & adventure
Jamberoo Action Park is a great summer day trip with waterslides and rides, while Wollongong also has plenty of playgrounds, beaches and family activities.

Lookouts & scenery
Otford Lookout, Bald Hill, Mount Keira and the escarpment lookouts provide spectacular views over the Pacific Ocean and coastline.

Things for kids
There are playgrounds, rock pools, bike paths, swimming, surfing, fishing and plenty of easy coastal walks. For a rainy day, UOW Science Space is an interactive science centre with a planetarium.
