Above river path leading to historic centre

Our home is the final house in a terrace leading down to the Ouse, York’s main river. It is an ordinary, Victorian dwelling but has a beautiful location just above the river path, one of York’s favourite green spaces.

We have two double bedrooms, both with river views. There are two shower rooms with toilets, a recently-renovated kitchen, and a full-length lounge with a French window opening onto a courtyard. A cycle store is part of an extension, on top of which is a sedum green roof. The utility room houses an Air Source Heat Pump, which is our main source of heating. The house is virtually all-electric. However, there is a gas fire in the lounge, which makes the room more cosy on wintry days.

It is an accepted fact of local life that the River Ouse will periodically flood. However, as our house is high above the river, water has never come close to Farndale Street or posed any form of threat.

About the location

Location on the north bank of the river gives the most direct access to the city`s key sites (check on the map). A ten minute stroll along the nearby river path leads to York’s historic centre. Fulford Road, one of the city’s main thoroughfares, is a couple of streets away from our quiet location. York is a cycling city and National Cycle Network routes 65 and 66 cross at the Millennium Bridge five minutes from our front door.

York is one of Britain`s historic gems. It offers rapid rail connections to London (two hours) and Edinburgh (two and a half hours) and is also an excellent base for exploring the Dales, the Moors and the Coast.
