Avril and Tony's home
We are a couple in our mid 70s. Tony is a retired public servant and Avril works part time in her own business as a specialist occupational therapist. Our home has very recently been renovated and is comfortable and energy efficient with solar panels. It has an open plan living room with kitchen and pantry adjoining, and two bedrooms plus a room currently used as an office. The bathroom acts as a laundry as well as having a walk in shower and bidet with toilet. There is a separate toilet also. There is garden front and back. There may be a one bedroom secondary dwelling available in our rear garden. We help to maintain a community garden nearby.
The house is in a north eastern suburb of Melbourne where the participants in the 1956 Olympics were housed and fed. We know most of the people in our street who will happy to help visitors find their way around the area. A large public hospital and Shopping Centre are nearby, with a Community Health Centre, a gym and swimming pool just around the corner. Public transport is nearby but you can use our 5 seater automatic hybrid car to explore the city and nearby countyside.
During our house renovation we stayed in four other family homes looking after their pet cats and dogs. Many years ago we were members of Intervac and swapped homes with people the US, France and Italy as well as UK.
We are now looking to spend some time in London, before returning with our daughter to Melbourne. We are therefor looking for a swap of up to a month in March 2026.
About the location
Our home is on the site of the housing for the athletes in the 1956 Olympic Games, about 11 kilometers from one of the World's most livable cities, Melbourne. It is close to public transport and we have bicycles and an hybrid car available for transport in the city and to explore more widely in Victoria. A short walk away is a large shopping centre with a cinema, supermarkets and any shop you might need.
A nearby creek with has bicycle and walking tracks with Australian flora and fauna giving a taste of the Australian bush. Bird song greets you in the morning (and on and off all day), with kukkaburas in nearby parkland and garden visits by friendly magpies, ravens and butcher birds.
