Charming Family Home in Kendal, Gateway to the Lake District
We’re offering our family home in Kendal, Cumbria for a house exchange with a Sydney-based family. Our home is in a peaceful residential spot with stunning elevated views over Kendal — a historic market town known as the "Gateway to the Lakes."
The house is in a quiet cul-de-sac, with a garden that overlooks the town and surrounding hills and is easy access to the town centre. The position on a hillside not only provides great views but also all day sunsine consquently the house is spacious and light-filled, more in line with an Australian house than a British one.
It's a warm, relaxing space with a multitude of spaces, inside and out, for peace and quiet, we find it a great house for unwinding and enjoying morning coffee with a view or evening wine with the sunset.
The home's well-equipped for comfortable living, with multiple bedrooms (3 doubles, plus a second lounge with sofa bed for a fourth double). There's a fully fitted kitchen, three lounge areas, wood burner, multiple outdoor seating areas and all the amenities you’d expect from a family home.
Whether you're after a quiet retreat or an active base to explore from, the house offers both.
About the location
In terms of location the house is in a quiet cul-de-sac so traffic and noise are minimal. We border a woodland and the garden is very private, unusal for the UK! There is quick access to a cycle path into the centre of town or a scenic walk up and over the castle will also get you into town. The area is an outdoor sports haven, fishing, walking, fell running are all in reach around the valley.
Kendal is a medium size market town with numerous cafe's, resturants, pubs and an arts centre which has a good reputation for live music. The town sits on the outskirts of the Lake District national park and is also close by the Yorkshire national park thereby giving good access to a multitude of fell and valley walks, climbing crags, tarns and meres. Cycling around the area is great as there is a huge number of small lanes to wander and get lost down.
Because the Lake District is a prime tourist destination the whole area is well serviced for café’s, pubs etc , so you're never to far away from a brew or beer. Lake Windermere is an easy 30 min drive (easy means not much hassle). Kendal is also on the west coast main line with easy access to Edinburgh, Manchester, London or Glasgow.
