Grade 1 listed Georgian terrace opposite Holbourne Museum and Gardens
This apartment is in a classic Grade 1 listed Georgian terrace overlooking the Holbourne Museum and gardens. The terrace was built at the same time as the pleasure gardens in the late 1780s. There are lovely views all round - at the back the windows give onto the wooded hills towards Widcombe and Alexandra Park. We're on the top floor, the old servants' quarters, so it's a fair amount of stairs, and the windows are half sized rather than the full Georgian sash. The master bedroom is very large and en suite, and the second bedroom next door a decent size, with plenty of wardrobe space. and a very comfortable double bed, firm mattress. The third bedroom is smaller with a skylight but still comfortable accommodates a double bed, and dressing table and drawers. The large living/dining room is at the front of the building with a dining table which seats 8 at a squeeze, and flat screen TV. The kitchen is well equipped, we run a catering company! The hall is spacious with two drying cupboards.
We have an excellent electric cargo bike, Ridgeback with children's seat on pannier rack behind, at your disposal.
About the location
Sydney Place is at the end of Pulteney Street, a wide ceremonial avenue running through spectacular Georgian terraces along to Pulteney Bridge, approx five mins walk, with the iconic views over the weir. Beyond this is central Bath, with the Abbey ten to fifteen mins walk from the house.
Right in front of the house is the spectacular Holboune Museum and Gardens, with lovely childrens' play area, well kept gardens, and the renowned art museum and coffee shop. We also recommend the Greek lady in the kiosk at the far side of the park, her bakery goods and coffee excellent!
We are very close to the canal towpath, which runs through the grounds of the Holbourne through the Avon valley which is a lovely walk and cycle ride. We are on the 'two tunnels' route, which takes you by the towpath to Dundas Aquaduct and back into Bath, highly recommended. You can also cycle to Bradford on Avon, or the smaller stations along the canal and take the train back. We recommend the sauna at Warleigh Weir.
From the street behind frequent buses run to the American Museum and Gardens, and Bath skyline walk at Claverton Down, approx five mins on the bus, with beautiful views and lush countryside.
Waitrose is a ten mins walk, also there's refill shops like Harvest which offer waste free shopping.
We can add you to our guest permit for parking on the street in front.
