About the location
The Cotswolds. Moreton in Marsh is a popular market town within the Cotswolds National Landscape. It benefits from good public transport links to the adjoining counties of Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. Moreton’s mainline railway station (Great Western Railway line leaves London Paddington, stopping at Reading and Oxford, Moreton in Marsh and goes on to Hereford via Great Malvern and Ledbury or via a new link at Worcester Parkway to Birmingham and the north) is a ten minute stroll away on the far side of the High Street. Fox Barn is on a quiet no-through road with a footpath onto countryside walking routes and the High Street is a few minutes walk away in the opposite direction. The High Street is a mix of 18th and 19th century Cotswold stone buildings with shops, antiques and art galleries, restaurants, pubs and cafes.
The North Cotswolds has many ancient and attractive “wool” towns, centres of the wool trade built in the Middle Ages by wealthy merchants, including Stow on the Wold and Chipping Campden. Broadway and Burford with their wide village greens were used as holding areas for sheep and all of these are within a twenty five minute drive or less from here. Stratford upon Avon (birthplace of William Shakespeare and home of the Royal Shakespeare Company and theatre) is 30 minutes away by car and the Regency city of Cheltenham 35 minutes by car. The city of Oxford is a 30 minute train journey from Moreton in Marsh station. There are many beautiful gardens and historic houses nearby including several National Trust properties: Hidcote Manor and gardens, Snowshill Manor, Chastleton House, Charlecote Park and deer park. For walkers there are several national walking/hiking routes from our door or nearby, including the Cotswold Way starting in Chipping Campden and finishing in the city of Bath.
All of the above villages, towns and cities offer lovely country pubs, bistros and restaurants for dining out. We are spoiled for choice!
