It is a ten minute walk to the river through an attractive park. Boat hire and river cruises are available in the town of Richmond which adjoins East Twickenham.
It is 30 minutes by train to the centre of London. There is no tube in St Margarets but there is a tube station in Richmond, a fifteen minute walk or a short bus ride. It is less than ten minutes to the train station. Trains to London are two per hour or more at peak times.
Hampton Court Place is 20 minutes by bus or longer by boat.
It is a suburban area with local shops.
