River Croft

Our house enjoys stunning views over the Coquet valley and Simonside hills on the edge of the Northumberland national park. Situated in the centre of the traditional village of Rothbury, it looks out over countryside and has the River Coquet and its riverside path at the foot of the large garden.

The large open plan living area and kitchen are light and tranquil and enjoy a panoramic view through full size glass doors which open out into the garden. For winter there is a woodburner and underfloor heating. The 50" TV in the living room has Netflix and Amazon Prime and we also have a DVD player with a selection of DVDs if you cannot find something you like on the streaming services. The kitchen has a dishwasher.

Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms (2 doubles and one single) each enjoying unique views. There is one bathroom with a large bath and shower. There is a utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer.

The garden benefits from a south facing view and a new walled seating area with oak benches and a firepit. There are steps down to the house, garden and river. The river path is perfect for walking and is also a Sustrans cycle path. Brown trout, sea trout and salmon can be fished in the river (permits required).

Our house is also home to two gorgeous long haired cats who are affectionate and great fun. We would be grateful if guests could offer to look after them. The cats access the house through a cat flap and will only need feeding twice a day.

About the location

Rothbury is a beautiful small rural town, famous for Cragside, a National Trust property and it is ideal for accessing the fantastic coast, hills and castles of Northumberland.

The long sandy beaches are 25 minutes drive away. Alnwick, Bamburgh and Warkworth castles are within 40 minutes. Lindisfarne/ Holy Island is just an hour away but you will have to check the tide timetable to see if the causeway is passable. If you want to visit cities of Newcastle you can catch a bus from Rothbury or drive there in 40 minutes. Edinburgh is a stunning train ride from the nearest station in Alnmouth. Durham cathedral and city are also well worth a visit.

Rothbury has a small supermarket, pubs, 2 restaurants, as well as cafes and shops,. Our favourite bar is the Narrow Nick which will introduce you to local beers and if you are lucky, local musicians.

There are fantastic hill and ridge walks within half a mile of the house and if you feel adventurous, the Lake District is 2 hours away.
