Georgian Stone Cottage

Our wee lodge is the original gatehouse to the Kincaid House, a grade ‘A’ listed building designed by architect David Hamilton in 1812 and formerly the residence of the family of “Kincaid of that Ilk”, descendants of the Earls of Lennox.

The Lodge itself is a small `cosy cottage` and has been modernised throughout. It has a lounge with stone fireplace and wood burning stove, two double bedrooms (one with kingsize bed, and one with french windows onto the garden which can either be used a double bedroom or as a 2nd sitting room), one single bedroom, a dining kitchen and one bathroom.

The property sits in 1/3 acre of garden, with garden office/ summer house (if required) with a view over the Campsie Fells. The house itself is on one level and is easily accessible, but the majority of the garden is accessed via stone steps and raised pathways.

About the location

Milton of Campsie lies at the foot of the Campsie Fells and was an old mill town which produced calico and cloth. Nowadays, it is a commuter village from Glasgow but still feels semi-rural. There is a good local co-op supermarket (big enough for basics), a hairdresser and a lovely coffee shop in the centre of the village.

For more choice, head into Kirkintilloch which has a choice of several nice cafes and restaurants or Lenzie with its award-winning deli, Billlingtons.

There are lots of local walks from the cottage, including the John Muir Way which heads along the old single track railway line. We are on the edge of the Campsie Fells and the Trossachs Country Park, with Glasgow Airport only 30 mins / Edinburgh only 50 mins by car.

We have very good local transport links and its easy to get into Glasgow (20-25 mins by bus/ car/ taxi, regular bus services from just outside the property), Edinburgh (70 mins by car/ 35 mins by train from nearby Croy or Lenzie station) or Stirling (30 mins). Glasgow and Edinburgh are home to Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet, RSNO, BBCSSO and Scottish Chamber Orchestra, National Theatre of Scotland and numerous theatre companies, museums, comedy clubs, churches, cathedrals, castle and restaurants, bars and clubs. Plus we are ideally situated for the Edinburgh International Festival - close enough to visit every day (and with a useful late trains service) but much quieter!

We are only a 40 min drive to Loch Lomond and the gateway to the highlands with its many lochs, glens and hills and we are well situated to visit Scotland`s many castles and historic sites.
