Contemporary house in beautiful village with stunning views

Contemporary village house with local amenities including excellent bars and restaurants and access to fantastic mountain hiking.

Recently extensively refurbished to provide all modern amenities. Fully equipped kitchen including a dishwasher and large fridge freezer and lots of pots and pans and crockery. This is our second home and we love to cook so, whilst compact, the kitchen is very well equipped.

In a separate cupboard there is a washing machine and tumble dryer for winter guests and particularly hikers / cyclists.

The ground floor sitting room has a view of the orange tree outside and blinds for privacy. A large L shaped sofa bed creates a comfy double bed for 2 guests with high quality linens. This room is cosy in the winter as there is a modern, efficient wood burning stove and stays cool in the summer as the orange tree provides shade and the window position limits direct exposure to the summer sun. Underfloor heating is timed by a thermostat connected to the wifi.

In this room there is a bookcase with local guide books and a few reading books and board games. Also housed here are many drinking glasses and other dining essentials.

Steps lead to the laundry and then onward to the kitchen where logs are stored in the area beneath the stairs.

On the first floor landing is a wardrobe for guests 3 and 4 and steps down into the double bedroom with a high quality bed and classic white linens. Also provided are two beautiful locally woven wool blankets for winter evenings, a natural wool-filled duvet and the flue from the fire below also provides background heat. A wardrobe for this bedroom is tucked away in an alcove. Underfloor heating is again controlled remotely.

The shower room is monochrome and has wall hung sanitaryware with white Metro wall tiles and contemporary floor tiling. A heated towel rail and underfloor heating keep the room warm in winter and the rainhead shower has ample hot water in winter from a heater supplemented by a solar panel which becomes the main heat source from spring until autumn - over the long summer hot water is provided solely by the solar panels. There are plenty of towels and beach towels.

The second floor is used as a sitting room during the summer months with the doors open to the terrace and views beyond. In the winter this room tends to be used to eat in with the views and also to sleep on the sofa bed for guests 3 and 4 when the heat of the wood burner on the ground floor is too much!

The terrace is one of the main features of the house with plenty of room for the folding garden furniture for al fresco dining and also a number of relaxed seating options. Hours can be spent watching the ever changing views of the castle, church and local mountain, Sierra del Hacho and the mountainous landscape stretching to the Mediterranean and Atlantic Ocean with views of Gibraltar and Morocco beyond most days.

High speed, reliable internet means that you can stay connected .... or not if you choose!

We do have a Smart TV which has a VPN to allow web based U.K. TV streaming along with other streaming apps such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.

There are over 30 stairs in the house so this isn`t recommended for small children nor those with mobility issues.

On street parking is available right outside the house accessed through the narrow streets of our beautiful village.

About the location

Gaucín is one of the most beautiful’ pueblos blancos’ in Andalucia. When approached from the coast it appears to cling to the hillside, topped by a Moorish castle.

In the village there is a pool is usually open from mid June to September. It`s a 25m pool surrounded by grass, but you need to take towels as there are fixed shades on the grass (we also have 3 sun loungers with shades for use on terrace, pool or beach). Entry is 1,50 euros a day and is around a 20 minute walk across the village.

A 10 minute drive away is an alternative pool in the village of Benarraba) It is part of a municipal hotel and open to day visitors from 12. It costs around 4 euros each to access and is set on a terrace with sunbeds and fixed parasols. As part of the hotel there is a restaurant with seating on a terrace with lovely views, The food is good and reservation is recommended for weekend lunches where you can sit beneath the shade of pines and enjoy the view!

All of the great Andalucian cities are easily accessible with Malaga and Jerez just over an hour away, Seville and Cadiz around 2 and Granada and Cordoba slightly further. Estepona and Ronda are both under an hour away and Mediterranean beaches around 30 minutes’ drive.
