Traditional cottage in rural Cornwall - Rilla Mill

** We are now fully committed for our 2021 exchanges other than a 5 day period during October half term. Thanks for all the interest **

Colpit Cottage is a 19th-century stone-built 2 bedroom cottage situated in Cornwall in between the market towns of Callington, Launceston and Liskeard. We are a few miles from the Devon border. Chris and Tracey live here with 16 year old Harry. Chris is a retired senior police officer and Tracey works as a school secretary.

We keep a few chickens which we would ask our visitors to look after (fresh eggs daily), together with our three cats that live outside but which get fed by the cottage door morning and evening.
Colpit Cottage has been extensively refurbished in recent years and now enjoys slate flooring in the main house with under-floor heating. The kitchen has all modern conveniences including dishwasher, washing machine, and microwave oven as well as a traditional range cooker. There are the usual television and DVD player as well as wi-fi internet connection throughout the house. It is an old stone cottage, so it can get cold at night. In addition to central heating, we do have wood burning stoves and logs will be available - it makes the whole place fabulously cosy on those chilly evenings. We only have two bedrooms, so ideally we are looking for an exchange with couples or families with one child, however both rooms have double beds and there’s always the sofa for someone.

We are approximately one hour drive from Exeter airport, and the same from Newquay. Bristol airport is 2 hours away. The mainline railway station at Liskeard is just 6 miles. Car exchange is available. There is a local shop about 3 miles away and the market town of Launceston with all shopping and amenities is a 15-minute car journey, the same at Liskeard.

About the location

Colpit Cottage is in an idyllic location situated next to woodland and open fields with immediate neighbours. It is a place of absolute tranquility with only the sounds of wildlife and the nearby river to disturb you.

Both the South and North coasts of Cornwall are easily accessible - about 30-40 minutes by car where there are wonderful walks and beautiful coastal towns to visit. Indeed the whole of Cornwall is within your reach. North Cornwall is known for its sandy beaches and great surfing whilst the south coast has fantastic scenery and coastal walks. The world famous Eden Project is a short distance away www.edenproject.com But if you would prefer not to travel too far, there are some great walks from Colpit Cottage either through the woods or up onto nearby Bodmin Moor. We will be happy to give full details of where to visit and some suggestions of good pubs and restaurants in the area. We would be happy to look after livestock/pets at your home. We are generally restricted to school term for our main holiday, but weekends are more flexible. Basically, we`ll consider any offers.
