Listowel

Our home is a new build, single story. It is a modern, passive house, architecturally designed. It is the quietest, most peaceful place I have ever been in. We are living here two yrs. Although it is in a housing estate and within walking distance of the town of Listowel, it is the same as living in the country with town convenience. We are an end house, on half an acre site, facing into and surrounded by a farm and looking to the hills. There is no through traffic as it is a cul-de -sac! There are 45 houses in our estate all on their own site and individually built . We won best small estate award and our town, Listowel, won tidiest town in Ireland. We have all modern conveniences in the house as it is a new build. South/west orientation and the patio is facing this way. All glass to this area so lots of sun, when we get it! The house is all about easy and peaceful living. Its easy to keep, flat access to the garden with large sliding doors. No carpets, wood in the bedrooms and polished concrete in the living area. There is underfloor heating but this is not needed in the Summer as the insulation is excellent being a new build and having a lot of glass its always warm. The rooms have two double beds !! and share a wet room. The house is suitable to two couples at most. There is a large kitchen dining area. The kitchen has a larder. The sitting room is large with reclining couches and a smart TV . The living block is away from the sleeping block, they are joined by a hallway and office/snug where there is a TV and small sitting area. A nice spot for the avid reader/ writer or artist. All doors slide back into the walls. We keep them open and love the flow through the house. There is a garage. Clothes line area, a robot to cut the lawn and a relaxing fountain on the patio with all outside furniture. The estate houses are to our backs when sitting and the view from any area of the house is to the garden and the fields. We love our home and the feel is like we are on holidays all the time. We are 15 minutes from the beach and world famous Ballybunnion Golf Club. Its is a very quiet, safe place and residential. Sorry, no parties!

About the location

Although we live in an estate you can walk to town in 15 min and drive to the seaside of Ballybunnion also in 15 min to the world famous Ballybunnion Golf Club. The house feels like we are in the country because of the orientation to the fields and hills. Listowel just won the tidiest town in Ireland. It is beautifully laid out with its square and surrounding Georgian Houses. The quaint Listowel Arms Hotel with its beautiful balcony over looking the Race Course and River Feale is magnificient. The Seanachai Writers Museum, Market square on Fridays, St, Johns Theatre, with its packed programme and beautiful coffee shops, boutiques and Olive Stack paintings give hours of pleasure with many more facilities, too many to mention. We have of course the famous John B Keanes pub. John B Keane being the writer of The Field. Music, dance, singing and theater pub is a regular here and can be followed on FB. Lots of entertainment during the Summer and at weekends in the Winter. There is a Leisure Centre in Ballybunnion with a swimming poor and Beach surfing. Listowel Town has a Community Centre with a fitness programme, yoga, pilates and many more classes running. Tralee is 30 min away. Killarney 1.15 hrs. Dingle 1.30. and Kenmare similar, Glenbeigh, Ballyheigue and Castlegregregory beaches are magnificent and are under an hrs drive. The list is endless of where to go and what to do. On the other side of Listowel we have Limerick City. 1 hr away and Tarbert, 15 min away that has a ferry every hr in the Summer to take you across the majestic Shannon river to beautiful Clare, the Cliffs of Moher and its many beaches. Check hrs of running during Winter time. Galway is 2 hrs drive from Listowel and Dublin 3 hrs without traffic! There are of course direct busses to everywhere and trains from Tralee and Limerick. Flights from Farranfore which is 30 min away go to Dublin, London, Germany and Portugal. We host the International acclaimed Writers Week on 1st weekend in May, Racing, and Food Week among many events during the year. Listowel is the hub of Culture and poets and writers of the highest caliber and there is a festival of some kind on almost every month. Its is a very helpful and friendly town. has good food, plenty to do and lots of fun. Dublin airport is 3.30 hrs away.
