Kiln Cottage

Our home is a traditional Scottish house, set in a large garden beside a wood. It is very secluded and peaceful, being located away from any main road, and surrounded by farm land and hills. It is a mile from the nearest village, five miles from a small town, and an hour away by rail or road from Edinburgh.

We have extended the house in recent years to provide an open, light filled interior, with overhead roof windows, and doors opening on to the garden or onto the large deck to the south side of the house. It is a very relaxing house to stay in and we love living here.

We have five double bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large open plan kitchen/dining room, a music room cum library, and a sitting room with log burning stove. All the downstairs rooms have doors leading out into the garden.
We often see deer in the wood, and the bird life is fascinating to watch. The south facing deck is a real sun trap, and a lovely place to sun bathe and relax.

About the location

The Scottish Borders is very rural, with rolling hills and beautiful wooded valleys dotted with the occasional small village or town.

Our house is a mile from the nearest village, Midlem, five miles from the nearest town and shops, and an hour by rail or road from Edinburgh.

There are many beautiful walks to do directly from our house and further afield in the valleys and hills around Selkirk. The pretty Borders towns of Melrose, Kelso and Peebles are not far away, and Edinburgh is an amazing city for architecture and culture, and is easy to reach with the Borders rail link now in place.

The Borders is also famous for its castles and stately homes and Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott is only 15 minutes away.

The Borders is very popular too for horse riding,shooting, and fishing, with The river Tweed not far away.
