Village of Cottenham

The house is situate on a 'B' road in the village of Cottenham, 7 miles due north of Cambridge. Parking is available both on the wide pavement outside the front of the house and in the driveway. The front door is used, but we usually enter the house through the side gates to the left hand side of the house. A wooden shed stands in the driveway, with bikes available for use.

The kitchen is spacious enough for cooking and dining and has a gas fired Aga which also heats the water. There is a fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, electric kettle and a variety of electrical gadgets to complement the well-equipped kitchen. The utility room is reached passing through an office, and has a washing machine, upright freezer, separate toilet and washbasin and a spacious wet room.

There are two large sitting rooms at the front of the house, one with a wood burning stove. The house is centrally heated.

Upstairs there are five bedrooms, 3 of which have double beds, 1 a single and the other 2 bunk beds. There is an upstairs bathroom and toilet and separate toilet with washbasin.

There's a TV/DVD player (and video player) radio/CD player in the kitchen, WiFi and telephone.

About the location

The village has three pubs, two supermarkets, a butcher's shop, greengrocer, newsagent/post office, hairdressers and car repair garage, all within easy walking distance of the house. There is an Anglican church, Baptist Chapel and Salvation Army chapel.

Transport: regular bus service into Cambridge and frequent trains from there to London (average train journey 50 minutes). There's a second train station at Waterbeach which is nearer but has no public transport to reach it. Stansted Airport is 50 minutes drive away and is also accessible by train from Cambridge.

Cambridge is a picturesque university town with many historic buildings, churches, museums and art galleries. There are theatres, cinemas, an alternative theatre/music venue and two main concert venues.

Cambridge activities: punting on the River Cam, swimming (several public swimming pools) There are cycle routes most of the way to Cambridge. Other cycled routes are in the house information.
