House by the Sea

Situated on the east of the island, our traditional cottage overlooks Brevig Bay.

The "Leanish" Otters and seals are often seen from the windows and it is a bird watcher`s paradise. The sunsets and sunrises are truly magnificent, and in the winter months the Aurora Borealis can be seen.

The cottage has a large vaulted lounge with window seat that overlooks the water, a large kitchen, a dining room and two bedrooms, however we will have a third bedroom with its own en suite shortly. All of the rooms overlook the sea. Out garden gives you direct access onto the peninsula which offers far reaching views over to the small isles and also Skye on a clear day. We have been accompanied on our walks on this peninsula by otters, and we pass seals basking on the rocks further along. Eagles and sea eagles are sometimes seen above the house.

We have a house full of books, games and DVD’s for you to enjoy! Maps and tourist information books are available to help make your stay as good as possible.

About the location

The island is stunningly beautiful, with crystal clear blue water and numerous white sand beaches. It is the perfect location for hiking and biking, kayaking and fishing, and there are boat trips to uninhabited islands where you can see much wildlife.

Castlebay, as it`s name suggests, has a castle in the bay which can be reached via a small boat. There are cafes and hotels which serve excellent local cuisine, and well stocked shops. The heritage museum, abandoned village and hill forts are very interesting places to visit. Local experts offer wildlife walks, and boat tours around the island.

A short ferry journey (40 minutes) takes you to Eriskay from where you can travel to other Hebridean islands. On Eriskay you’ll find the beach where Bonnie Prince Charlie landed , and also the Politician Inn where items from the SS Politician can be seen, including a whiskey bottle!
