Cramer Gutter - Oreton cottage

Our Cottage is set alongside Catherton Common, in the village of Oreton. We have had a lot of animals, in the past, it was a bit of an animal sanctuary. As we are now retired and want to travel more, we only have a small dog, a dachshund, who usually travels with us if we go by road.

We have a wood burning stove in the sitting room and a gas and electric range cooker. There is a bio mass wood pellet boiler/stove in the kitchen which provides heating, hot water and is also a stove top and oven. There is a downstairs room that works as a fifth bedroom (a good inflatable double bed available) and shower room, so suitable for someone who cant manage stairs. Our dining room/sun room is adjacent to the sitting room and is lovely to relax in on a sunny afternoon or for dining and chatting into the night. We get great dark skies, and its a good place to watch them if you dont want to venture outdoors.
Upstairs there are three double bed rooms and a box room we use as our office/store-room. So the house will accommodate a large family group. An ensuite shower and toilet is attached to the main bedroom and we have a second bathroom with a bath and shower over. The heating for the house is through the wood stove in the sitting room and the Klover wood pellet boiler in the kitchen. We have solar panels for hot water and electricity to supplement this heating. We are happy to be carbon neutral as all the wood is from renewable sources.

Our house is well located for the delights of the Shropshire market towns and beautiful countryside. Ludlow, Bridgnorth, Tenbury Wells, Shrewsbury all within easy driving distance. You will need a car and we may be able to swap cars by arrangement. There is around 8 acres of land around the cottage and we have a large vegetable plot which may or may not be cultivated. We wont expect you to garden, but you would be welcome to if you fancy it. Long term exchangers will need to commit to do some gardening as it will need grass cut.

About the location

South Shropshire is a delightful part of England. There are no cities, or motorways (the M54 runs to Shrewsbury and Telford) and there are many historic market towns to explore. We are conveniently situated for discovering the Welsh Marches and Ironbridge Gorge and its associated museums are a short distance. Ludlow is deemed to be one of England`s prettiest towns and prides itself on its food culture. There is a well established food festival every year in September.

There is a golf course at Cleobury Mortimer and the tennis clubs in Ludlow and Bridgnorth, all welcome visitors. There are public swimming pools in Shrewsbury, Church Stretton, Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Tenbury Wells and Much Wenlock. If you enjoy walking, there are a lot of excellent walks in the area, direct from our house or from nearby starting points. The Shropshire Way, Worcestershire Way and sections of Offa`s Dyke are all very accessible.

We have a network of Village Halls that organise entertainment for our rural communities, all are very welcome, look out for the notices, and we will leave information for you in our house file. Cinemas offer a range of films at Shrewsbury, Telford, Tenbury Wells, Bridgnorth and Ludlow.
