Cramer Gutter - Oreton cottage

Our Cottage is set alongside Catherton Common, in the village of Oreton. It has a large garden and we built a natural swim pond in 2021. It’s not maintenance free! No chemicals but regular skimming to remove algae and leaves to maintain swim area.

We have a wood burning stove in the sitting room and a gas and electric range cooker. There is a bio mass wood pellet boiler/stove in the kitchen which provides heating, hot water and is also a stove top and oven. There is a downstairs shower and toilet. Our dining room/sun room is adjacent to the sitting room and is lovely to relax in on a sunny afternoon or for dining and chatting into the night. We get great dark skies, and its a good place to watch them if you dont want to venture outdoors.
Upstairs there are three bed rooms, 2 with double beds and the third has a queen size bed. There is a fourth room with a single bed which has access on to decked terrace affording lovely views over the Common. An ensuite shower and toilet is attached to the main bedroom and we have a second bathroom with a bath and shower over. The heating for the house is through the wood stove in the sitting room and the Klover wood pellet boiler in the kitchen. We have solar panels for hot water and electricity to supplement this heating.

Our house is well located for the delights of the Shropshire market towns and beautiful countryside. Ludlow, Bridgnorth, Tenbury Wells, Shrewsbury all within easy driving distance. You will need a car and we may be able to swap cars by arrangement. We also have a old but reliable (🤞🏽) Mercedes Sprinter Motor Home and this could be included in swap. Particularly if there was a reciprocal arrangement.

About the location

South Shropshire is a delightful part of England. There are no cities, or motorways (the M54 runs to Shrewsbury and Telford) and there are many historic market towns to explore. We are conveniently situated for discovering the Welsh Marches and Ironbridge Gorge and its associated museums are a short distance. Ludlow is deemed to be one of England`s prettiest towns and prides itself on its food culture. There is a well established food festival every year in September.

There is a golf course at Cleobury Mortimer and the tennis clubs in Ludlow and Bridgnorth, all welcome visitors. There are public swimming pools in Shrewsbury, Church Stretton, Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Tenbury Wells and Much Wenlock. If you enjoy walking, there are a lot of excellent walks in the area, direct from our cottage or from nearby starting points. The Shropshire Way, Worcestershire Way and sections of Offa`s Dyke are all very accessible.

We have a network of Village Halls that organise entertainment for our rural communities, all are very welcome, look out for the notices, and we will leave information for you in our house file. Cinemas offer a range of films at Shrewsbury, Telford, Tenbury Wells, Bridgnorth and Ludlow. There is a good selection of live music on offer at local pubs and the Assembly Rooms at Ludlow has a range of entertainment on offer, look at their website
