About the location

Mersea Island is famous for oysters and all things related to boats. It is joined to the mainland by a causeway that can flood at high tide adding to its charm. The island has two villages one at the West end where our house is and a smaller village at the East end. West Mersea has an old city area and one sailing club and one yacht club. The Island provides the opportunity for walking on the beach and marshes observing the wonderful sea birds, cycling, boating, eating at famous sea food restaurants, swimming and has a huge array of events ranging from all types of music, fetes, regatta, sailing, talks, shows and so on. Buses run from Mersea to Colchester( nearest large town) station with frequent trains to London only 50 mins away. Picturesque Dedham, famous for Constable's paintings, is a short drive inland and the ancient university town of Cambridge for a punt on the Cam is approx 1hr.
