About the location

Home is located in quiet leafy residential area of Qualicum Beach, beside woods. It is 20 mins walk (10 mins cycle - less than 5 min drive) to beach or village. Beach is mixed sand and pebbles with ample sand at low tide - ideal for daily swimming, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. Rockpool, crabs, starfish, sand dollars. Lots of wildlife. Beautiful swimming at sunset with views of surrounding islands. Village is charming. Weekly outdoor market, one of a kind shops, boutiques, yoga studios, large quality grocery, smaller organic grocery, artisan bakers, great coffee, great sushi, gastro brew pub. Award-winning swimming pool. Library. Everything you need.

15 mins drive South is Parksville (pop. 12,000), known for its sandy beach which stretches for miles with very warm water shallow pools, great public park and waterpark, many hotels and resorts, spas, restaurants, outdoor markets, mini-golf. Gourmet pizza and gelato. Explore area around Parksville, Rathtrevor Beach, winery, cheeseworks, the Wildlife Recovery Centre.

20 mins drive West there are fantastic swimming lakes and camping areas. Go swimming, kayaking or fishing every day if you choose. Visit Goats on the Roof market. Great outdoor dining and gelato.

Go further West to Tofino and Ucluelet. Visit Pacific Rim National Park for the day or several days. Huge stretches of sandy beach. Big surf. Great surfing culture. Delicious fish tacos.

30 mins drive South of Qualicum Beach is Nanaimo (pop. 83,000), a city with shops, aquatic centre, cinema, parks, lakes and ferry to Vancouver and other islands. Several excellent restaurants - Sushi, Greek, and authentic Italian. Explore Saltspring Island and tour its lavender farms, cheeseworks and wineries.

Further South travel through Ladysmith and Chemainus to Victoria. Go for the day or several days. Victoria has a lot to offer. Great restaurants, beaches, museums, historic houses, Chinatown, Butchardt Gardens. See the harbour seals, watch the goat run at Beacon Hill Park. Very friendly city.

Start or end your trip with a couple of days in Vancouver. Visit Grouse Mountain, Granville Island and Kitsilano Beach. Science World is fantastic for rainy days. Lots to do and enjoy.

We have a Toyota Highlander (7 seater) and a pick up truck (6 seater - useful for transporting kayaks to lakes) which we could include with the swap, if insurance can be arranged. A vehicle could be left at Vancouver airport or on the Island.
