About the location

With 2 universities and 3 teaching hospitals Sheffield offers a vibrant, multicultural city. According to Wikipedia: 61% of Sheffield's entire area is green space, and a third of the city lies within the Peak District national park. There are more than 250 parks, woodlands and gardens in the city, and an estimated 2 million trees, giving Sheffield the highest ratio of trees to people of any city in Europe.

Within ten minutes drive from our home you can be in the city centre with 2 theatres to choose from (the Crucible theatre will be familiar to snooker lovers), three cinema complexes including an excellent independent cinema. We have several art galleries and museums and the beautiful, free Botanical Gardens. For those who enjoy shopping the city centre offers both the high street stores and independent shops, and 25 minutes away is Meadowhall, the largest indoor shopping centre and entertainment centre in Yorkshire. Sheffield has an active music scene boasting two concert halls and a wide variety of clubs and pubs.

If you wish to be a little more active but remain local, you have the choice of 3 indoor climbing centres, mountain bike trails, golf courses, Olympic swimming and diving pools all within easy reach. There are many enjoyable walks in the countryside from the house either out towards the Peak District or through the woodland parks towards the city and the cosmopolitan area of Hunters Bar with its bars, cafes, delis and assorted independent shops.

Five minutes drive will take you into the beautiful Peak District National Park where you are spoilt for choice. Walk the hills and dales, cycle one of the several quiet cycle trails (bike hire available), mountain or road bike more challenging hills, climb on the gritstone edges and boulders or limestone cliffs or just enjoy the magnificent scenery. Alternatively visit a stately home with Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall all within a half hour drive.

Transport links from the city are excellent, we are well served with 10 minute bus services into the city and from the Midland Railway Station you can be in London in 2 hours. Trains also run frequently to historic York (45mins), Leeds (45mins), Manchester (60mins) and Birmingham (100mins). Sheffield is positioned off the M1 and the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors or East Coast resorts of Whitby, Scarborough and Bridlington are all within a day visit.
