Restored 1880 farm-house with wide verandas over-looking the Huon River

A 2-story restored weatherboard house with 180 degree river views. Close to the facilities of the township of Franklin (pop. ~450, two pubs, restaurants, the river) but sufficiently set back up a hill to be away from through traffic. We have 3 double bedrooms, plus a 4th bedroom with a single bed. Two bathrooms, one upstairs with shower and one downstairs with both shower and bath. Heating is by a ducted heat pump (reverse cycle air-conditioning) and a wood burner in the limery (like an orangery but used for growing lime trees, lemon grass and chillies).

We have three cats who would need feeding and bringing in at night so they don’t molest the resident bandicoots in the garden. We have friends nearby happy to take on cat feeding duties if you wanted to spend nights away.

About the location

The riverside town of Franklin is an easy 40 minute drive south of Hobart in Tasmania. It is the centre of wooden boat building in Australia, being home to the Wooden Boat Centre, which teaches traditional boat building, and the Living Boat Trust, a community organisation established to share the joys of using, restoring and maintaining boats. Hobart is a culinary centre, has Australia’s most intact collection of heritage buildings and is on the world’s cultural radar since the opening of the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA). Tasmania has a temperate climate, stunning beaches and large areas of World Heritage listed wilderness.
