"It is such a peaceful, beautiful place, in the middle of nature yet also extremely cozy and comfortable, with a great kitchen and a lovely sense of design. This is our third visit to Iceland from New York, and of all the places we have traveled this stands out as the most special so far.

We stayed just after midsummer, when it's light all day and evening except for a couple hours of dusk, and one of our favorite experiences was staying up to see the incredible light over the valley between sunset and sunrise. We also enjoyed meeting the horses, walking along the river, sampling rhubarb ice cream and skyr from a nearby dairy farm, and daytrips to the Westfjords and the Snaefellsnes peninsula. About the location

Only 120 km from Reykjavík, Kolsstaðir is located on a remote mountain hill, 200 m. above sea level, surrounded by mountains, unspoiled valleys, horses, sheep and foxes. Despite the remoteness, the road to Kolsstaðir is mostly paved roads with only few km of gravel. Kolsstaðir is a 30 square meters in size and with 20 square meters sleeping attic with 3 beds and one mattress. Down stairs there is a sleeping coach. Though newly built, it is designed in old Icelandic cottage style with a modern fire stove and a new well equipped kitchen. There is a wifi Internet connection. A good shower facility is based in the cellar and good swimming pool at Laugar, Sælingsdal (30 km away). There you will also find a gethermal pool made the same way as during viking age open 24/7, free of charge.
