Cosy chalet in a beautiful village in the French Alps

We have a cosy chalet in a hamlet close to the magnificent 'Grand Site de France' of the Fer-a-Cheval in one of the most beautiful, well-preserved villages in France. The hamlet is very peaceful and quiet, with the sound of the river nearby, but only 8 minutes drive from the chic ski resort of Samoens with its restaurants, bars and shops.

On the ground floor, there's a living/dining room with an open fire, a double bedroom, kitchen with wood burner, shower room and w.c. Upstairs there's another double bedroom and a large mezzanine with a 'coin montagne' where two more can sleep plus another bathroom and laundry. It is surrounded by our garden and there's a terrace with a table and chairs for outdoor dining. We don't have a TV but there is a piano and plenty of books.

The chalet is 6 or 7 minutes walk from the centre of the village. Nearest airport is Geneva (1 hour 15 minutes), there are buses to Cluses (nearest station/30 min) and Annemasse on Geneva border (70min).

About the location

The area is classic alpine landscape, just a couple of valleys north of Mont Blanc. There are opportunities for winter sports for all tastes - skiing, ski touring, cross country, raquette walking - and wonderful alpine walks in spring and summer. You may even see marmots, chamois, ibex or the pair of gypaetes (lammergeier) who nest on a nearby peak . There are gentle walks along the River Giffre or more challenging white water rafting through the Gorge de Tines, rock climbing on the Via Ferrata. It's a safe area with friendly neighbours. The village has many traditional buildings and has a bakery, a general store, a small bar, a pizzeria and a typical Savoyard restaurant. Nearby Samoens has a good range of shops, bars, restaurants etc.
