Heartwood

A two storey wooden house in Swedish style one mile from the sea with great views over the green Devon hills. It is very light and spacious with a large 7 meter square room we use for dance and meditation with a trapeze from the ceiling. It is one of eight similar houses all made in Sweden and shipped to England in 1948 after the second world war. It is made of good quality Swedish pine and was one of the first flat packed houses! We have solar heated hot water and a hand made curved kitchen.

About the location

We live in the South Hams, designated as an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty with one of the most beautiful coastlines in the UK. South Milton is a village surrounded by softly rolling green fields with a church and village hall where the locals play bowls, and on Sundays you hear the church bells ringing just below us. We have lovely friendly neighbours and a large garden.
You can see the sea from the top garden which is a half hour walk away and 7 minute drive to the nearest small town Kingsbridge.
The 14th century Dartington estate that the visionary Elmhirsts bought in 1925 is 40 minutes away. They created the famous Dartington glass, the visionary school and much more. The gardens are exquisite. https://www.dartington.org/visit/explore/about-the-gardens/
Dartmoor is an hour away with striking granite tors and steep wooded river valleys. The cathedral city of Exeter is also one hours drive away, and Plymouth 45 minutes drive. The nearest station is in the quirky town of Totnes 30 minutes away, with its fiecely fought for independent shops and cafes.
