Floating Bliss

Our home is a 62' narrowboat on the English inland waterways network. Over the last five years I have lived on board the boat, James No 194, while it has been extensively refurbished. It is now fully equipped for long term cruising off grid. In case you are unfamiliar with the term, "off grid" means that the boat is capable of generating all electricity needed on board.

James is currently moored on one of the prettiest inland marinas in England, deep in the heart of rural Warwickshire. The marina grounds extend to 110 peaceful acres which include three protected wild flower meadows and seven acres of woodland comprising fifty different species. The woods are home to both barn and tawny owls, hawks and buzzards and both roe and muncjack deer.

The marina is at the heart of the waterways network. The river Thames and London is within reach as are Birmingham and Shakespeare's birthplace, Stratford-Upon-Avon. While the towns and cities are fascinating to visit, the greatest pleasure for Sally and I is to moor deep in the countryside with nothing for company apart from the birds and animals around us. It really is an idyllic lifestyle.

About the location

The closest village, Napon On The Hill is a five minute drive away or a half hour walk along the canal. Although the location is peaceful, the country's two largest cities, London and Birmingham are just an hour and a half and forty minutes by car respectively. Use of a car is included in the exchange but once you have experienced the joys of cruising on the canals and rivers you may not want to use it.
