Durham city family

Our house is an 1890s Victorian town house which has been decorated and restored throughout in keeping with the original feel of the house. It has a sitting room, large kitchen with Aga leading out onto a well cared for garden, a basement study/spare room with wood-burner, four bedrooms and two bathrooms. There are original working fireplaces in most of the bedrooms and in the sitting room.
There is a large garage opening out onto a quiet back lane.
The house is at the top of a hill, with wonderful views over trees, the Victorian viaduct and Durham cathedral. It is a five minute walk from the central station and a ten minute walk into the town centre, yet the house is in a peaceful location, backing onto a large woodland.

About the location

Durham City in north-east England is a World Heritage Site and within an hour/hour and a half of the house are some of the most wonderful rural locations in England - including the stunning Northumberland Coast (Holy Island, Bamborough and Dunstanborough Castles, Alnwick Garden and Castle, the Farne Islands etc...). Kielder Forest and rural inland Northumberland, the Roman remains along Hadrian's Wall and around Corbridge and Hexham, the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (Weardale, Teesdale, Highforce Waterfall), the North Lakes in Cumbria (Ullswater, Derwent Water etc...), the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and the beautiful fishing village of Staithes and Jurassic Coast around Whitby in North Yorkshire.
We are also less than 2 hours from Edinburgh, 45 minutes from York and 15 minutes from Newcastle on the train.
