Sunset Cottage

We live in beautiful rural France. We moved from England in 2014 because we fell in love with this area of France and could resist it no longer. We are set amongst 16 acres of pure unspoilt lush countryside. We are spoilt with three lakes within easy walking distance from the Cottage. One of the lakes has been there since the Napoleonic years.
Our stone cottage is well over one hundred years old and has been beautifully and thoughtfully renovated to include all modern conveniences within a quaint antique rural french style setting. We have a hot tub on the terrace and a splash pool in the garden for summer use.
On one side the cottage overlooks the huge ancient, un renovated, stone barn. On another side the property benefits from magnificent views of the Napoleonic lake and the surrounding countryside, we are blessed with very little light pollution and magnificent sunsets that have to be seen to be believed. Are nearest neighbours are family who live quietly across the courtyard and up the lane there is a hamlet of fifteen small houses where our local friendly french neighbours live, two of the homes have English occupants who have lived here for more than a decade and are very nice to have around.

About the location

The Poitou Charente is a popular yet unspoilt region of France partly because of the temperate climate, magnificent views and lack of road traffic.
A very peaceful area with countless tiny stunningly beautiful villages and many bountiful lakes earning this part of France the nickname of 'the French Lake District'.
Although benefitting from such wonderful tranquility, the ancient town of Angouleme is only a fifty minute easy drive away (the roads are very clear) and historic Poitier with its winding cobbled streets, weekly antiques and food market and magnificent Cathedral is also easily reached within an hour and ten minutes easy drive, Limoge, famous for its beautiful glass is little more than an hour away. These ancient historic towns are achingly beautiful and it is a wonderful experience to spend a day browsing the tiny boutiques and designer shops, the bustling indoor/outdoor markets and not to be missed restaurants and bistros offering mouthwatering french cuisine.
Within driving distance is the martyr village of Oradour-sur-Glane, the monkey world of La Vallee des Singes and the famous major attraction of Futuroscope together with many other sights and attractions. Perfect peace and fun when you want it!
