Ottersgill

Ottersgill is a renovated croft house on the sea shore with wide views over the Bay of Ireland, looking towards Stromness to the east and the hills of Hoy to the south. It is reached by a well maintained track running across fields, and has its own slipway. ( Kayaks are available , but only for the experienced!)
The house retains some traditional features , such as open fire in the living room, and an Aga in the kitchen with a flagstone floor.
The more modern features include a large hexagonal conservatory to the south, a garage with an automatic door and a wet room adjacent to the main bedroom.

About the location

The Orkney islands have the highest number of Neolithic remains in the UK, with the current archaeological dig at the Ness of Brodgar raising international interest. Orkney is also a favourite destination for keen ornithologists, and in general, a good place for families with outdoor interests- hiking, cycling etc. When the weather is wild ( can be windy!) the Pickaquoy centre in Kirkwall has a good gum,an indoor pool and you can hire badminton courts.
In summer island hopping is really fun- putting your bike on a boat , and spending a day exploring Hoy,Westray, or Rousay.
