About the location

Longfield is one of the older village houses, located on the edge of the village overlooking open fields and the lovely North Downs. The Elham valley is very close by. Lyminge is a small village but has quite enviable facilities such as a very old church (founded by Queen Ethelberga), pub, Library, Tea Room (recommended), Indian and Chinese Restaurants and Convenience Stores for all essential groceries and provisions.

One of the main attractions of being in Lyminge is its proximity to so many wonderful places to visit. The ancient city of Canterbury with its Cathedral is superb as are Leeds Castle (often described as the most lovely castle in the world), Dover Castle (with the newly opened war tunnels where you can see a whole hospital built into the rock and the rooms where Churchill and others commanded the air and sea forces in the Second World War). Hever Castle is a little further but well worth a visit to see the home of Anne Boleyn.

Because Lyminge is situated in the North Downs of Kent, there are lots of great walks nearby and every day there are cyclists tackling `Longage Hill`. Lyminge Forest is a mile away and Romney Marsh is great for flatter cycling.

Perhaps the most unique thing about the location is that it is 5 minutes drive from the Channel Tunnel and after a 35 minute journey (your car goes on a shuttle) you are in France. Or if you prefer to go to London you drive to Ashford (20 minutes by car) and then take a 38 minute high speed train to London where you can catch a Eurostar train to Paris, Bruges, Avignon etc. Closer to home there is a regular bus service that stops 100 metres from the house and you can travel to Canterbury, Folkestone and Hythe.

Finally, if you like the sound of a Merlin engine then you will be pleasantly surprised to hear them most days as a Spitfire or two take people on pleasure flights over the village towards the White Cliffs of Dover. If you`ve never seen and heard these planes before it is very memorable and if you have seen and heard them before then you`ll still stop and smile!
