Puffin Cottage

Our house is a terraced Georgian cottage in the heart of the conservation area in Deal, five minutes walk from the high street and the beach. It is arranged over three floors and has two double bedrooms, the larger of which can be set up with either twin beds or a super king sized bed. The sitting room and dining area are on the ground floor and there is a sofa bed which sleeps one person comfortably. The recently fitted kitchen, utility room and bathroom are in the basement. Others features include a wood burning stove in the sitting room and a big collection of Penguin and Pan paperback books. The house has fairly steep stairs, so it is not really suitable for the very young. There is a lovely south facing garden with a bar-b-que and seating area.

About the location

Deal is a pretty seaside town on the coast of Kent with an interesting military and maritime history. The town centre is very quaint with narrow winding streets and lots of well preserved Georgian cottages and houses. Deal is an excellent place to enjoy a pint as there are plenty of brilliant pubs in the town and in nearby Walmer. There are numerous independent shops, restaurants, cafés and a great market on Saturdays with stalls selling vintage bric a brac and furniture. Deal has an extensive, clean shingle beach and the lovely sandy beaches at Broadstairs are also nearby. There is a direct train service to Deal from London St Pancras (1hr 30 mins on the high speed service) and the train station is a five minute walk from the house. Dover is only a few miles away, so it is very easy to take a day trip to France from Deal. The countryside around Deal is beautiful and there are lots of options for coastal and countryside walks. The area is also very popular with golfers as there is a club in Deal and the Royal St George club is a couple of miles away in Sandwich. The historic towns of Canterbury and Sandwich are very easy to get to from Deal, as are the seaside resorts of Broadstairs and Margate.
