A beautiful mid-Victorian house in Edinburgh: modernised but with plenty of period details Secure garden and off street parking home swap
Our home is in the Trinity area of Edinburgh, a few miles from the city centre. It was built, we understand, around 1860, making it firmly mid-Victorian. It is set back from the main road with gardens to the front and the rear. We bought the property in 2006 and spent a large part of 2007 comprehensively renovating it, whilst still retaining its many period features including the wrought iron stair fittings, the coving to many rooms, shutters and the exterior stone work. All bathrooms - which now have full mains pressure, no dribbly British plumbing here - and the kitchen have been fully modernised though, providing a balance of old and new.
Briefly, our home comprises the following main rooms/features:
Family room/children's playroom with TV, DVD & Wi; Large dining kitchen with Aga - this room also has direct access to a deck with barbeque and onwards into the garden; utility room with large "American" style fridge and freezer;
Drawing room with home cinema system and wood burning stove and double sofa bed (can be a 4th bedroom); family bathroom with walk in shower and cast iron roll top bath; double bedroom
Children's bathroom (sloping ceiling!); two bedrooms, one with bunk beds for children, the second with double futon.
The large, enclosed rear garden is ideal for young children and very safe indeed.
There is a drive way in which to park
We have a trampoline and a climbing frame to keep children (and adults) entertained.
