Ojo Caliente, High Desert Beauty
My high desert home in New Mexico and is on 10 beautiful and profoundly quiet acres adjacent the Carson National Forest with its pinon pine, juniper and sage and offering unlimited views of the Sangre de Christo and Jemez mountains. 5 miles south is the historic Ojo Caliente hot springs and resort with its outdoor (open all year round) soaking pools, spa facilities and restaurant. It is an hour north of Santa Fe with its wonderful museums, galleries, music, and fine restaurants. The Santa Fe Opera is a big draw for opera lovers during July and August. It is an ideal location to use as a base for visits to various national parks (Mesa Verde, Bandolier, Chaco Canyon) and exploring the eight Northern Pueblos and the Navajo Reservation.
For hikers, there are many many great places to go nearby as well as the thousands of acres out the back door. During the winter and early spring there is skiing at nearby Taos and Santa Fe ski areas.
The house comprises the main one bedroom home plus a separate studio space, making it idea for an artist, writer or composer.The studio can also be used as another bedroom by using the inflatable beds available. Porches on two sides of the house are used constantly in the spring, summer and fall. The house was built in 2006 and its passive solar design keeps it cool in the summer with the sun barely crossing the porches, and warm in the winter with the sun flooding the house. The altitude is 6800ft so that we have all four seasons, including snow in winter. Summer nights are always cool and pleasant. New Mexico is known for its brilliant light and the sun shines more than 325 days a year. It is a house suited to those who want an active holiday as well as to those who want something more quiet. The skies are the real show. The ever changing cloud formations, sunsets, and spectacular star-gazing with or without the resident telescope.
