The Old Police House - Beautiful Grade II listed Cottage in Dorset

The house is a Grade II Listed Building;set in a little village, surrounded by miles of prime Dorset countryside. The surrounding countryside is designated a conservation area of outstanding natural beauty, and we are within 25 minutes of the World Heritage Jurassic Coast. The house was built in 1844, and was originally the village police station. There's a wood-burning stove for cooler nights, and extensive gardens, including a play-house, and a 12' trampoline for the children (and grown ups!). There is an outdoor eating area with chimenea. Three comfortable bedrooms: a double; one room with bunkbeds and spare bed; and another with one or two beds, allow flexible accommodation, and although we are a family of five, the rooms can accommodate up to 7.

The river Frome bubbles through the village green opposite the house, and the national cycle network passes just beyond. The ancient town of Dorchester, the "Casterbridge" of Thomas Hardy's novels, lies just 6 miles away, and offers a range of historical sites of interest, as well as fantastic shopping and great places to eat out.

The gorgeous beaches of Weymouth are a 20 minute drive away, and there are lots of coves to explore in that area. Weymouth played host to the 2012 Olympic sailing events, and there are plenty of centres for sailing, wind-surfing, sub-aqua and other watersports based there. The Devon border is 20 minutes away. London is 2.5 hours away by car, as is Cornwall. The Welsh border is 1.5 hours away. Dorchester has direct train routes to London.

You can walk straight from the house into the most wonderful countryside, and almost immediately into parkland originally landscaped by Capability Brown. In the summer, picnics on the Millenium green, and playing in the river - the green is listed by the West Dorset Tourist Board in the top 20 places to visit - make for an idyllic countryside holiday.
