Stone house near mountains and city

Our stone-built house in a country area of Biscay is a great base for visiting the cities of Bilbao, San Sebastian and Vitoria. Great walking in Urkiola National Park, 10 mins walk from the picturesque old town of Abadino, 3 kms. from Durango. 30 mins drive/bus to Bilbao, 1hr San Sebastian/Vitoria.

Double en-suite and 2 twin rooms sharing bathroom on 2nd floor. Further bathroom downstairs with large kitchen, comfortable, spacious main sitting-room, dining-room, terrace & small container garden outside. Wifi, large flat-screen TV, open fireplace, wood-fired / electric range cooker. Parking space for two cars outside house.

We have an affectionate cat who comes and goes through his catflap, but would need feeding and a bit of attention. We also have six chickens who need feeding and their nestbox topped up with straw when you collect the eggs, which you can use for tasty breakfasts.

We also operate a B&B through the house so are limited to swaps outside peak times of summer, Easter and Xmas.

About the location

Lots of things to do in area, days out in city, exploring the lovely Basque coast and beaches, great walking routes in the nearby Urkiola mountains, bird-watching, rock-climbing, horse-riding etc. Pretty local towns and villages such as Elorrio, bars & restaurants with marvellous Basque food, many at walking distance from house or on good transport routes. Centrally located to enjoy the best of the Basque Country, with Bilbao (e.g. Guggenheim) 3o mins away, the wine areas of the Rioja Alavesa about 1.15 mins to the south (La Guardia etc) , the lovely Guipuzkoa coast (e.g. Getaria or the `flysch` between Deba and Zumaia,) with beautiful San Sebastián a 50 minute drive away, leading to the French Pays Basque (e.g. Biarritz 1.5 hr drive). Many other attractions nearby in Biscay province , from hiking routes in the surrounding Urkiola natural park, exploring the coast (e.g. the Urdaibai Estuary, a Unesco Natural Reserve), great surfing spots (including world-famous left wave of Mundaka), cycling routes in mountains or around lakes and country roads, and the many cultural and sporting attractions of the city of Bilbao. Walking distance (1.2 kms) to Abadiño village centre, with bars, a couple of restaurants and little shops, and the much larger Durango town centre is 2.5 kms away.
