La Mousandiere

A beautiful 18th century fully renovated cottage one hour's drive from the ferry at Caen. Full of character, it features exposed beams and many original features. It has two double and two single bedrooms and all mod cons - including a fully fitted kitchen, washing machine, dishwasher etc. Situated in rolling countryside, it's a "get away from it all" kind of place, with the nearest village about half a mile away. The large grounds are great for just sitting out enjoying the peace, or if you have children, for playing games.

Lots to do - great walking, canoeing, and especially cycling. Excellent local tennis courts and swimming pools. Some local chateau to explore and Mont St Michel just one hour's drive away. Or just relax!

About the location

Southern Normandy is beautiful, largely agricultural, with rolling hills. It's an outdoor sort of a place - there isn't much to do in terms of manufactured entertainment, but the big outdoors is there to be enjoyed, with plenty of forests, rivers and lakes. Still, there are some attractive towns nearby, noteably Domfront with its castle and Mayenne with its pretty riverside cafes. Lots of interest within an hour or so of driving, including the coast ( the Normandy landing beaches, pretty ports of Granville and Cancale), Roman ruins at nearby Jublains, the wonderful old town of Fougeres and plenty of local Chateau to explore. The climate is generally pleasant from Easter through to September - certainly an improvement at most times on that of the UK.
