2 bedroom house in Gold Coast Hinterland

We purchased a beautiful L-shaped block of land with established trees and shrubs and designed and had built our two-bedroom single storey home in 2011, trying to make it look a bit old with working shutters and recycled front door with lead-light window.

The main living area is open plan with lounge at the front, through to dining area through to kitchen and a study/sewing room beyond that.

We have a built in garage at the front which comfortably houses our Kia Hatchback plus tools, then two double bedrooms, the master with a king-size bed, ensuite and walk in robe (and lovely views to the back garden). We have a separate family bathroom including spa bath, shower, vanity and toilet and it also includes our washing machine and drier in a recess.

Our kitchen is modern with all normal appliances including dishwasher and a breakfast bar and stools.

The house has ducted reverse cycle air conditioning.

We have loved living here over the last 5 years and on Tamborine Mountain for 16 years. The front garden is like a rain-forest - dominated by a giant fig tree to which we have added a ladder and platform. The back garden is more like an English cottage garden. Both front and back gardens have seating areas in the shade of the gazebo/pergola and we enjoy al fresco dining! We have a chiminea out the back for small cooked meals. Our gardens are visited regularly by parrots, kookaburras, bowerbirds and other birdlife. We have 2 veggie tanks where we currently are growing herbs - the birds compete with us if we grow fruit.

About the location

Tamborine Mountain in the Gold Coast Hinterland is itself a popular destination for holiday and day trippers. It is a plateau 500m above sea level and now home to 8000 people and the numbers are swelled by visitors to the 30+ B&B's whilst still being big enough to stay in your own rural retreat if you want. The attractions are varied to suite many tastes but largely of a genteel nature - 5 National Parks including rainforest walks and waterfalls, 5 wineries, 1 brewery, 1 distillery, numerous cafes and restaurants, art galleries and gift shops, glow worm caves and a well-used jump off point for hang-gliders. From a number of vantage points you can see the sweep of the Gold Coast 35kms away or to the Scenic Rim of volcanic hills to the West. All facilities are here - supermarkets, shops, medical centre, a 9-hole golf course, etc. A self-sufficient supportive and creative community.

The mountain has 4 seasons (some parts of Australia are really only Winter or Summer in type). So beautiful spring flowers and colourful trees such as jacarandas and flame trees, and lovely autumn colours of liquid ambers and maples.

The Mountain has an iconic monthly Country Market underneath the gum trees at the Showgrounds as well as 3 interesting festivals per year: Springtime on the Mountain when residents have Open Garden to allow visitors to see their spectacular gardens, the Scarecrow Festival where 100+ scarecrows peer out at you from different corners and the Gasolene and Garters Festival - a retro themed weekend event of fashion, dances and old cars. Our historic Zamia Theatre has regular films or plays on offer.

We are 35minutes drive from the northern end of the Gold Coast and about 50 minutes to the southern end. It is famous for its wonderful sandy beaches and surf, and 300 days per annum of sunshine. It also has some lovely creeks and lagoons right by the sea. The iconic Surfers Paradise for beach and nightlife and also our favourite quieter beaches further south, Burleigh, Kirra and Coolangatta. Burleigh is a beachside town within a city - very pleasant.

We are 1hour from Brisbane, the river city, with its own attractions. We love the Southbank development - a cultural precinct of performing arts venues, walkways and even a man-made beach.

Tamborine Mountain is a good base for other day trip attractions:

* 4 famous Gold Coast theme parks
* 15 mins to Rainforest Skywalk where you can take elevated walks in the rainforest canopy
* 30 mins to either the large Robina Shopping Centre or the Harbourtown discount factory outlet
* 30 mins to a design built boating + restaurant resort at Sanctuary Cove
* 50 mins to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary
* 1 - 1.5hrs to lush hinterland rainforest retreats at O'Reillys, Binna Burra and Springbrook
* 1.5hrs to the Border Ranges through the spectacular Numinbah Valley
* 2hrs south to NSW laidback resorts of Byron Bay, Murwillumbah and Nimbin
*2hrs north to the Sunshine Coast for quieter but lovely beach resorts and hinterland towns

Have we convinced you yet there's lots to see and do? Check out also the Chamber of Commerce website for a full description of the mountain and the things that go on up here: www.tamborinemtncc.org.au
