Magnificent and untamed yet serene and gentle, this is a region rich in romance and history, studded with the evocative ruins of abbeys and castles, with ancestral homes and pretty cottages, and with historic towns and villages and welcoming traditional pubs, all set among some of the loveliest landscapes in Britain.
