Lovely 4 Bed home in Montreal, Canada

Our large and comfortable detached home is located in Pointe-Claire, about 20 minutes drive from downtown Montreal. On the upper floor, the master bedroom has an en-suite shower room and the other three bedrooms share a large family bathroom. In the basement there is a recreation room with exercise equipment and table tennis, an office with computer and printer (the house has wireless high-speed Internet), laundry room and another shower room. In the open-plan living area on the ground floor are the kitchen, dining area leading to a deck for outside dining, and lounge. The lounge has a 50” plasma TV with digital HD cable and PVC (personal video recorder, similar to TiVo) and a DVD. (A second TV with PVC is in the basement.) There is a cozy woodstove for winter visitors and central air conditioning for those hot and humid days.

Our area of Pointe-Claire, Cedar Park, is a lovely leafy neighborhood with older homes on the shores of the St. Lawrence River. The river is so wide here that it is actually called Lac St. Louis. We are just two minutes walk away from the lakefront. The lake offers sailing, canoeing, kayaking and wind and kite surfing, with rentals available. There are also public tennis courts. We border the historic village of Pointe-Claire. Founded in 1698, it was, like Montreal itself, one of the first settlements in North America. We are just a five-minute walk from its centre, where you can find all kinds of interesting shops and restaurants. We have excellent public transport, with the downtown express bus, which runs every ten minutes, only a five-minute walk away.

Being in the French Canadian province of Quebec, Montreal is a North American city with a very special character. These days, most people are bilingual and will be happy to speak to you in either language. Culturally, it is a vibrant and exciting place, hosting, among other events, the International Jazz Festival, the Just for Laughs comedy festival, and a Formula 1 race. There is an enormous choice of restaurants with cuisine from all over the world. This is a city where people just love to stroll, and its streets are safe at any time. For those who wish, there is also a lively night life.

In winter, we have some great ski areas within 1½ hour drive, and the snow can be fun if you haven’t seen too much of it!

Ottawa and Quebec City are just a couple of hours drive away; and, if you like to drive further, Boston and New York City are an easy day’s drive. There are lovely hikes on the hills and mountains around Montreal; or, three or four hours drive away, there are the mountains of New England.

Conveniently, our house is just a ten-minute drive from Trudeau International Airport. (Aircraft noise is not a problem.)

We would be willing to swap our highly fuel-efficient 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid.
