Warkworth-Matakana-Omaha is a firm holiday favourite for New Zealanders. Just 40 minutes north of Auckland CBD, Warkworth (pop.4000) is a delight with its busy cafes, boutique shops, art & craft galleries. The main shopping street backs onto the Mahurangi River with its very pleasant wharf area - ideal for sitting, watching the local life and enjoying a picnic.

The famous Matakana Farmers Market, many beaches including Omaha, wineries, walking, golfing and other outdoor opportunities, plus arts and crafts haven make this a popular weekend and holiday destination. Look for Goat Island Marine Reserve and the glass bottom boat trips; our fabulous Tawharanui, Scandrett and Mahurangi regional parks with their pristine beaches; horse riding on Pakiri Beach if you`re so inclined and tasting tours of our many local boutique wineries.

Well known on the international tourist circuit is the Bay of Islands which is 2.5 hours north, Tauranga 2.5 hours south and Rotorua`s Geyser Wonderland 3 hours. Plus the newly opened Hundertwasser Arts Centre in Whangarei. You`ll never be looking for something to do!
