Large family home in the heart of the beautiful Kentish Weald

We have a beautiful, period family home in the heart of the Kent countryside, set in an acre of land down a private track.

The house dates back 300 years and retains lots of its original features. The front is traditional Kent white weatherboard with a peg tiled roof, while the rear of the house has a large catslide roof. Inside there are plenty of beams, large fireplaces, exposed brick and wooden floors - but at the same time the house feels very light and airy.

Downstairs there are three reception rooms - a large drawing room, a music room and a cheerful family/day room which opens onto the garden, plus a loo and a utility room for all those muddy boots and coats. The heart of the house is a large, double-height kitchen/dining room with bifold doors that open onto the terrace, where we tend to eat in summer.

We have three double bedrooms on the first floor. One has a superking size bed and an ensuite bathroom, the others have double beds and there is a large family bathroom. On the second floor are two children`s bedrooms, one with one bed and one with two.

The house is set in about an acre of well-stocked garden. We have a treehouse, trampoline and slide, and in the summer we usually put up our 15ft above ground pool. We also have a veg garden and hens (which a neighbour will feed if necessary). The garden is completely enclosed, so its safe for children to play. Next to the house there is a stream for paddling and getting wet in, and ancient woodlands to explore.

About the location

The house sits down a private rural lane, surrounded by woods and fields. There is no through traffic. It is perfect for walkers, as we have wonderful walks right on the doorstep.

It is located a few miles outside the historic town of Cranbrook in Kent, close to the Kent/Sussex border. The nearest large town is Tunbridge Wells and we are also close to Tenterden and Rye. Trains to London from our nearby Staplehurst station take less than an hour; Canterbury is an hour in the opposite direction.

Sissinghurst Castle is just a few miles from the house, and we are also close to Scotney Castle, Bodiam Castle, Bedgebury Pinetum, Bewl Water and many more outdoor attractions. We are also less than an hour from wonderful beaches such as Camber Sands, Eastbourne and Hastings.
