Craigavon - Victorian house with rear walled garden in central Scotland

Craigavon was built in 1895 on what was then the outskirts of Linlithgow. It has retained many original features including extensive interior cornicing and plaster work. The original coal/wood fire in the front room is fully functional. The rear part of the house is more modern with a wood burning stove in the dining area, which leads through to a sun room. Out back is a patio area and a garden set to lawn and plants with the original high Victorian walls on two sides. There is a downstairs bathroom and an upstairs shower room, two large bedrooms, a guest room that can be used as another double bedroom, and a further boxroom with a single bed.

About the location

The medieval royal burgh of Linlithgow is dominated by the Palace and the natural large loch at its centre, both a 10 minute walk from the house. The Palace was the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, and features in Outlander, as do a number of other local sites and castles. Linlithgow is midway on the old road between Edinburgh and Stirling. It is 30 minutes by car or rail from both towns, and also 30 minutes from Glasgow. Such a central location, and excellent rail and road links, make it a great base from which to explore all the flavours of Scotland. Glencoe and is a 2 hour drive West, and Inverness is a 3 hour drive North over the new Forth Bridge.

Linlithgow is a bustling town with a busy high street, with many different pubs (12 in all!), restaurants and coffee shops to choose from. It now has a population of around 19,000, a high school, two primary schools and is a popular choice for daily commuters with families who work in Edinburgh or Glasgow. The high street is a 10 minute walk from the house. A 10 minute walk in the other direction takes you to several supermarkets and other useful shops. The railway station is a 15 minute walk. There are many points of historical interest in the town and many walks, including two large country parks near by with free public access, and walks along the banks of the River Forth close by.
