Casa Castagna - Sorana

Nestled in a medieval Tuscan mountain village, with simply extraordinary views from every window, private terraced garden and contemporary decor, the house offers a unique opportunity to experience long etched traditions where heritage and food remain central. Cultural treasures, Florence and Pisa, are less than an hour away and `love at first sight` walled city of Lucca a mere 35 minutes.

The two en-suite bedrooms are furnished with White Company monogrammed bedlinen in a subtle palette of white and grey echoed in the bathrooms with White Company Egyptian cotton bathsheets and local Carrara marble-lined rain showers. A fully equipped kitchen with Alessi cookware, 5 burner Smeg oven and designer Italian crockery allows one to engage with the inner Italian gastronom.

The first floor is uncomplicated but elegantly furnished with antique sofa and chairs and log burner for cooler evenings, and offers unparalleled views over the valleys.

The terrace is equipped with an outdoor table and seating and is afforded with spectacular views. In addition, there are two deckchairs for lazy afternoons and aperitivi.

The garden straddles the two and has commanding views of the surrounding area. Wildflowers and insects thrive (the grass is deliberately not cut too often) and the area is rich in birdlife.

About the location

The village is a protected area, which means that most of the original buildings remain true to the heritage of the area. There is a small community circolo (bar) which guests are encouraged to frequent as this supports the local community and is a hub for locals. The circolo is open every day in the summer, and Friday through Sunday at weekends in lower season.Throughout the summer the village holds local festivals in the village square – chairs and tables fill the tiny square and (the extraordinary) food is produced in the village kitchens.

There are no fewer than 4 excellent restaurants within 5 minutes of the house, each offering a unique culinary experience. The local community circolo (bar) is open all summer.

Perfect for those wishing to experience the authentic Tuscany against the rich cultural backdrop of all that Florence, Pisa, and Lucca have to offer.
