Les Lilas

Our chalet is in a small hamlet in the mountains , 900 metres above the pretty town of Thones, which has tourism all year round. In 6 years we have renovated most of the chalet, including the floors, the staircase, the balconies, the bathrooms and kitchen. Although there are only a few houses in our village, it is very cosmopolitan and very friendly. We normally have a village party in the summer, we host a party Christmas Eve, and there are many other impromptu social events throughout the year. Our chalet is approximately 200 years old and has large folding doors on the front because it used to be the local bar where the customs officers used to drink, as they waited to catch the contraband coming over our pass from the tax free area around Geneva to the Haute Savoie.

About the location

Thones is 15 minutes from the ski resorts of La Clusaz and Grand Bornand and therefore has ski tourism in the winter. The rest of the year, it is a centre for walking, mountain biking and climbing. It has an open air swimming pool which is open from May to September, a park area for skate boarding, boule and children's play area, several restaurants and the usual French shops. It is also one hour from Geneva, and 20-25 minutes from the medieval city of Annecy and it's beautiful lake. In addition, it is the home of Reblochon cheese. Annecy is nicknamed the Venice of the Alpes, for obvious reasons, and there is much to see and do there in summer and winter. There are all the usual water sports available on the lake, cruises, and multiple beaches dotted all around it.
