Warm and Cosy Apartment Near Center of Reykjavik home swap
A warm hello to you!
Everything re. home exchange is now planned for 2016. Looking forward to 2017!
I do accept requests for bed and breakfast in my home (1-2 persons) and also requests for renting my apartment for up to one month. I especially welcome women, wanting to travel alone or with a friend who want the extra bit of warm and secure environment. I would do my very best to help them get to know Iceland and to learn about it.
Best things about my apartment:
*** Very near the center of Reykjavik, yet quiet
*** Walking distance to city center / shopping center Kringlan
*** Modest yet very cosy and warm
*** Verandah and garden
*** Ten min. walk to a swimming-hall(indoor) and by bus to the biggest open-air swimming pool in Reykjavik (indoor/open-air).
*** Ten min. walk to a cinema
My apartment is located in a lovely, quiet neighbourhood in central Reykjavik, zone 105 within walking distance (or biking) of the centre of Reykjavik, also within walking distance of the biggest shopping center in Reykjavik, Kringlan (for those interested :). The apartment is on the ground floor in a house with 4 floors/4 apartments with direct access from the living room to the garden, a small verandah too.
The apartment has its own entrance - an entrance that first leads to space belonging to all 4 flats. From there a door opens into the apartment from this joint space which is very neat and orderly.
The apartment measures 103 m2. It has 3 bedrooms of which 2 will be available (one used for storage). In one bedroom accessible from the living room there is a new matrimonial bed (width 160 cm), and in another spacious and light there are 2 single beds that can be moved together if needed. The living room has a piano, old type of TV, a comfortable corner sofa and also a dining table for 6.
The kitchen is comfortable with a table for 4 people, a small dishwasher, microwave oven, espresso coffee machine and other necessities.
The bathroom has a very good and comfortable shower (no bathtub).
Next door to my apartment on the ground floor is the washing-room with washing machines from each apartment. Each apartment also has its own washing lines so you can wash whenever you like and the clothes dry very quickly. A guest once said that this washing-room was an absolute luxury ;).
I do not have my own parking space nor garage but there are good free parking spaces in the street so parking is usually not a problem.
My neighbours are quite splendid and helpful people.
I have a cat. I can leave it at home if you like, otherwise my daughter would host it. If I leave it at home, I would ask you to take care of it when at home - I could provide for friends to drop in during your absences.
I have high speed Internet connection/access. The apartment is very suitable for adults/senior citizens.
About the location
This is a very nice neighbourhood, established and quiet, mainly houses 3-4 floors with one flat on each floor, most of them built during the 1950's/1960's. My street is the smallest of several similar streets with houses that have been well kept and rather big gardens. There is also a nice park at one end of the street just 50 m or so away where one could go jogging or just enjoying a walk - the park surrounds an interesting art gallery (Reykjavik Art Museum) and a café. Near the other end of the street lies a department of the University of Iceland, the School of Education and also apartments for students of the University of Iceland.
Incidentally, the main University of Iceland is also within walking distance as are the Reykjavik University and the National Hospital of Iceland.
A bit further away but still within walking distance lies the shopping center of Kringlan, one of the biggest shopping centers in Reykjavik, next to the Reykjavik City Theatre. Inside the Kringlan is also a cinema.
If you like to swim, you have only to walk ca 10 minutes and you've reached the indoor swimming-hall with "hot tubs" outside on the roof. Another big swimming-pool is a bit further away, you could bike, walk or take a bus - it is outside (also indoor) with all the possible variations of hot tubs sauna that you could wish for. - Icelandic swimming-pools are something you shouldn't miss - we have natural hot water so they are cheap to visit and deliciously relaxing!
One of the most famous and popular landmarks in Reykjavik, The Pearl, is within 5-7 min walking distance from my house. It is located on the Öskjuhlid hill, a great place for walking, with trees, footpaths etc. - The Church of Hallgrimur, (Hallgrímskirkja) also one of the most famous landmarks in Reykjavik is only ca. 10-15 min walking away from my apartment.
About 0,5 km away lies one of the main traffic circuits in Reykjavik, connecting the east and west end of the city.
There are good bus connections in many directions from this neighbourhood and also the main bus terminal of Reykjavik lies within walking distance of my flat where it is possible to travel to all parts of Iceland with coaches.
