Yorkshire Dales Village House

We have a light and airy village house on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. The fabulous view over the Aire Valley hills sold the house to us in a flash many years ago now! The village is charming. Despite all mod cons and contemporary furnishings, parts of the house were built at the time of the canal in 1770s. The house is very comfortable and warm.

The house is laid out over three floors, is very light and airy, has central heating and is comfortably furnished.
The living room is very large with great view and a 42" TV and most Sky channels. The kitchen is a good size with an adjoining but separate dining room with view. Gas cooker. Washing machine. Dishwasher. Gas Central heating and hot water on demand. Fibre broadband.
There are 2 bedrooms. The main bedroom has a large double bed and overlooks the valley. The smaller bedroom has a small double bed and faces the green of The Arbour. There is one bathroom with a bath and good shower, wash basin and toilet. There is another WC downstairs.
We have helpful neighbours, free street parking and recommend having a car unless you are organised to use the local bus services. You can get cabs to and from the local station at Steeton and Silsden.
There is a small sun-facing canal-side terrace. We can store cycles.
Not suitable for young children. No visiting pets, sorry.

About the location

This is a great spot for a trip to the Yorkshire Dales. This is fabulous walking, cycling and scenic touring territory. You can walk from the house up the moor, along the towpath or round the valley. It is situated between Skipton and Keighley where there are supermarkets. Skipton is good for the market and browsing the shops and visiting the fantastic Skipton Castle where Turner sketched. In fact, Turner sketched in many places in the area: Malham Tarn and Gordale Scar, Barden Tower. Easy drive to Bolton Abbey, Malham, Grassington, Burnsall and Wharfedale. There are two steam trains within a short journey and the Bronte Parsonage in the interesting village of Haworth is worth a visit. Saltaire, a world heritage site, is an interesting place to visit and has the 1853 Gallery which houses a substantial collection of David Hockney's work and has a great book shop. Bradford's National Media Museum and Halifax's Shibden Hall, The Piece Hall and the Dean Clough Art Galleries are all well worth a visit.

This is a really good area for nature or sightseeing on foot or by car. There are a few buses into remote parts. Steeton and Silsden Station is the nearest station, five minutes by car/cab from house.
