We are a family of 3 with 2 with a son of 15. We are restricted to travelling during school holidays as I am a teacher and my husband also works in education. We also have 2 well behaved, young cats (sisters) and are happy to leave them with the right exchange visitors and would be pleased to reciprocate if requested. Alternatively, the cats are happy to go to their holiday home, the local cattery, where they are very well looked after!
For 2016, we are looking for a family break and are happy to consider anywhere, preferably warm! We would especially like to visit Italy, Austria or Canada.
About the location
We live in a 4 bedroomed detached dormer bungalow just 5 minutes walk from the long, sandy beaches of the Norfolk coast in a quiet village 5 miles north of Great Yarmouth. Watch the sun rise from the beach which is easily accessed at the end of the road!
In our village we have a couple of small supermarkets, post office, pub with reasonably priced good food, ice cream shop, beach shop, a lovely restaurant, fish and chips and Chinese take away and a garden centre. There is regular public transport within 5 minutes walking distance.
We are situated at the edge of the Norfolk Broads, one of Britain's National Parks, the largest protected area of wetland in the UK and a great place for a wide range of wildlife. Here, there are also a range of sporting and leisure activities on offer including sailing, fishing, kayaking, hiring a day boat from Potter Heigham or Horning or going on an organised boat cruise from Wroxham or Norwich.
Norwich, our nearest city has an international airport, fantastic shopping, theatres, cinemas (IMAX), numerous restaurants, a castle and extensive leisure facilities and is just 18 miles, a 30 minute drive away. There is also a regular train and bus service there from Great Yarmouth.
The much visited towns of Cromer and Sheringham on the north Norfolk coast can be reached within an hour by car.
Banham Zoo and its sister zoo, Africa Alive, are also easily reached as are the numerous and picturesque Broads villages and market towns.
Great Yarmouth, a traditional seaside town houses the Time and Tide and Nelson museums, sealife centre, leisure facilities, pleasure beach rides and attractions, racecourse and all the usual shopping outlets.
There are a number of holiday campsites in nearby Hemsby and California and the area is therefore well set up for holidaymakers. There is also a large maize maize in July and August every year just 5 minutes by car or 15 minutes by bike. Many local pick your own sites are just a short distance away from the village.
