Edwardian House home swap
Our red-brick house is in an Edwardian terrace in a wide, quiet but friendly street, 5-10 minutes walk from beautiful parks, cafes, vibrant restaurants, delicatessens, a wide variety of shops - craft, fruit and vegetable, fresh fish, small supermarkets and a cinema. A half-hour bus/tube/train ride takes you to central London's historic buildings, royal palaces and parks, museums, art galleries, wonderful views, riverside walks, theatres and famous department stores.
At ground level we have 2 spacious sitting rooms, a dining room, kitchen and small cloakroom with a long house-width garden to the back of the house and a tiny front garden. On the middle floor the large master bedroom has a king size bed and the 2nd bedroom with single bed (and baby cot/crib if needed) overlooks back-to-back vgardens with their tall horse chestnut trees. Both bedrooms are near the family bathroom which has a bathtub and shower cubicle.
The large bedroom on the top floor has 2 single beds, desk, sofa and its own adjacent shower room. All our bedrooms are light and bright but have full blackouts for sleeping.
Our house, where we have lived for 30 years, retains its original Edwardian features - stain glass front door and windows, old tiled floor to hall, corniced ceilings and fireplaces in every room. Floors are stripped wood and the ambience is comfortable with books, a piano and wi-fi. Parking is free on our street and we can lend our small, manual Toyota Yaris car if wanted.
About the location
Muswell Hill has a long history centring on a holy well, but its streets and avenues of red-brick, ornate houses with colourful glass front doors, mostly built around 1900-1910, give it its distinctive warm character. It is a family area with a great mix of older people who have lived here for many years and young families attracted to its roomy houses and gardens.
Cafes and restaurants reflect every nationality and cuisine and neighbourhood people are friendly and helpful. There are very useful little shops, cafes and a cosy pub (with weekly quizzes and meals served) just round the corner and a huge variety 5 minutes walk away in the Broadway with high quality food shops interspersed with shoe shops, pharmacies, opticians, clothes shops, kitchenware, antiques, historic pubs, cinema, etc.
There is an excellent bus service to the nearest tube (underground) stations of Highgate or East Finchley (Northern Line) and Bounds Green (Piccadilly Line) or one can enjoy the walk to them. Frequents double-decker buses run into Central London passing by interesting areas and sights on the half-hour journey. We are a 15 minute walk from Alexandra Park train station also serving central and outer London for those who want to explore by train.
There are local gyms for those who want to do more than walk or jog in nearby parks.
