Detatched 4 bedroom House

We live on the outskirts of Lewes in an elevated spot. The house is a 1960`s house with big windows and beautiful views across the Ouse valley to Mount Caburn.

The house has 4 bedrooms; two with kingsize beds and two with singles. There is a main bedroom with ensuite and a family bathroom too. All the bedrooms have beautiful views. There is a large sofa bed in the sitting room which is a kingsize. There are two bathrooms upstairs and a small utility/toilet downstairs.
We have renovated the house over the past three years to modernise it. It has a large kitchen diner with doors that open onto the garden and views to Mount Caburn. There is a large sitting room with large sliding patio door which opens onto the garden. Our style is quite cottagey/modern because hitherto we have always lived in old cottages.

Our garden is quite steep and sloping and backs onto a field. The garden has several terraces and the the top terrace we use for fires and social gatherings! In our garage is a large pingpong table for entertaining everyone!

About the location

We are situated in an elevated spot on the outskirts of the super town of Lewes which has many independent shops and cafes, is steeped in history and has an historic castle. You can walk to Lewes from our house; the station is a 20 minutes walk, the nearest (very popular with families for supper) pub is 5 minutes walk away and the centre of town is a 20 minute walk. Lewes has a brilliant new cinema called The Depot which is really modern in design and has a lovely outside area for lunch and drinks and an inside bar/cafe. Lewes has the oldest outside swimming pool in the country called `Pells Pool`, it is fed by a natural spring.

Because we live right on the edge of the town it feels more like the countryside. Our views across the valley are fantastic. Opposite where we live, are Lewes Brooks which is a lovely nature reserve and then you have all sorts of different ways to get onto the South Downs for many different walks. Our house is on the Downs which is why our garden is sloping.

We live on an unusual 1960s cul -de -sac which basically stands on its own between the town and the country.

Lewes is very close to Brighton and 12 minutes drive from the sea. We go to the beach nearly every day in the summer. We are twenty five minutes drive from the Seven Sisters Country Park and half an hour from Beachy Head. There are lots of rivers around for kayaking and swimming for the brave! The nearest beach is 15 minutes drive away for swimming too.

There are also loads of different pretty Sussex villages nearby and many beautiful National Trust gardens and Standen - home of William Morris. Monks House and Charleston farmhouse the homes of Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell are popular places to visit. Also in East Sussex is Batemans (Rudyard Kipling`s house) and the magical gardens at Great Dixter.

Because we are teachers we are bound by school holidays for our travel plans.
