Lovely 2 Bed home swap in Sheffield, England
Ours is a typical Sheffield style terraced house. It looks small from the outside, but is a bit Tardis-like on the inside. The attic room has a double bed, plenty of floor space for 2 or 3 children in sleeping bags, and an ensuite loo. The first floor contains a double bedroom, the bathroom (with small bath and shower over) and another small bedroom that we use as a dressing room and exit, through french doors, onto the roof terrace. It could easily be used for another child (in sleeping bag) or baby. The roof terrace has glorious views over Sheffield city centre. On the ground floor, there is a living room with gas fire, wall mounted LCD TV, DVD player and cable channels. In the centre of the house is an informal dining room (which also houses the computer desk) and the kitchen is at the back of the house and leads onto the garden. Although we have two dogs, our cleaner is very diligent and the house does not smell "doggy".
Although small the garden is terraced, with seating area at the bottom and a greenhouse, with grape vine, at the top. There is a kettle BBQ for summer use. The shed has a green roof. The house is at the top of a hill, with plentiful on-street parking.
A few doors below is a small community garden; great for exercising dogs or sitting to admire the planting. At the bottom of the road (and the hill) is Heeley City Farm. This is a great asset when there are children to entertain. We are about half a mile from the city centre in a quiet residential area and just a short walk from the bus stop. Shops, Post Office, Co-Op, chemist etc are a short walk away. So is the Sheaf View, a real ale pub with a huge and devoted clientele.
The edge of the Peak District National Park is around 5 miles and a 15 minute drive from the house. Our home is therefore a perfect base for those who enjoy walking, rock climbing, cycling and sightseeing. The market town of Bakewell is an enjoyable drive away, through the Peak Park. And for a wonderful day out, you can do no better than Chatsworth House, the seat of the Dukes of Devonshire, with its magnificent gardens, historic house, farmyard, award winning farm shop, adventure playground and more.
For the keen fisherman, Barlow Trout & Course Fishery is a 15 min drive away (see www.barlowlakes.co.uk)
Sheffield city centre is a fairly well kept secret, but one you will be glad to learn about. Sheffield offers pulse-racing extreme sports; international cultural events, museums, galleries and theatres; delicious food; and attractions for people of any age on any budget. The Devonshire Quarter is where you will find the trendy, independent fashion outlets, whilst Fargate is the pedestrian shopping area in the heart of the city. Ten minutes from Sheffield City Centre is Meadowhall, one of Europe's largest shopping malls. Meadowhall has over 270 stores, crèche facilities, an 11-screen cinema, 12,000 free parking spaces, many bars and restaurants.
