Lovely 2 Bed home in Mytholmroyd, England
Our house is a semi-detached brick-and-tile house with a pleasant garden, set on the edge of a small housing estate overlooking a playing field, with beautiful hill views (both sides of the Calder Valley) from all windows. We have stated that we have two bedrooms, but there is a third, which is used as a study/office.
Mytholmroyd is a quaint village, the birthplace of the former Poet Laureate Ted Hughes. It is a little over 1 mile from the small historic town of Hebden Bridge. The town is set in the middle of the Pennines and is one of the prime locations for walking / hiking / trekking in the UK.
There is a diverse selection of pubs, including traditional ones serving local real ales and good meals, and there are some excellent cafes and restaurants, providing a wide variety of eating establishments.
The selection and variety of shops is recognised as untypical, in that there are no large supermarkets or other "chain" stores in the town, but there is nevertheless a huge variety of stores in Hebden Bridge, plus a medium-sized Co-op. There are larger supermarkets eg Tesco, Morrison's and Lidl in Todmorden and Halifax, each about six miles away.
There is a large artistic and musical community, a result of the area's history as a centre of the old 'hippy', or 'alternative', culture dating back to the 1960s/70s. Human settlement dates back thousands of years and the area was a centre for the textile industries of the Industrial Revolution.
