Home Exchange Saves You Money!

Members on a tight budget appreciate the savings that can be made on a home exchange vacation - no hotel bills, no car rental if cars are swapped, fewer expensive restaurant meals.

Less obvious savings may also be made - for example, no kennel fees if your exchange partner agrees to look after pets and no need to pay someone to care for plants.

The following sample, compiled by Home Base Holidays for an article in 'Moneywise', a UK magazine, shows savings that a British family of four (two adults + children aged five & 13) could make on a two-week home exchange holiday in Florida:

  HOME EXCHANGE TOURIST
Air fares + travel insurance
(3 x £300, 1 x £270)
£1,170 £1,170
Family room in hotel
(£50/day - low estimate)
n/a 700
Car hire & insurance n/a 300
Petrol 100 100
Restaurant meals
(3 per day, £5 per head - low estimate)
n/a 840
Groceries for meals at home 150 n/a
Exchangers' meals out (half) 420 n/a
Entertainment 400 400
TOTAL £2,240 £3,500
Difference = £1,260

Save money - or treat yourself to a longer holiday; but most of all, enjoy the comfort of your own home base!

'I decided I wanted to do all these things but couldn't afford to in the conventional way, so tried swapping. It's worked extremely well.' (M. Blythman, Edinburgh, UK, HE1750, quoted in article in 'The Observer'.) View Listing
